CHAPTER 12

Once they finished the chicken Caesar salads Jessie prepared, she sat back and looked at Mike. Now that she was facing this zoning board SNAFU, she was relieved she hadn’t let him invest more than just his time into her business.

She shook her head in an attempt to clear her mind. Mike was right. She had to believe it would be okay and think about something else, or she’d give herself an ulcer.

She picked their plates up and carried them to one of the sinks. “So what do I do at the club tomorrow night? You’re not gonna be able to coach me while we’re there.”

“You’re right.” He followed her, carrying their empty glasses. “Nothing will scare a guy off faster than if you’re with another guy. We don’t like competition.”

“So how do I get them to notice me?”

“Don’t worry. You’ve got exactly what all men are looking for.”

“What’s that?”

“Breasts.”

She laughed. “Come on, be serious.”

“I’m not kidding. It’s actually women’s nipples men find the most fascinating.”

A less than lady-like snort escaped her. “Aren’t they more worried about her being pretty?”

“That’s important, too, but be honest, how many guys have ever looked you in the eye for more than two seconds before their gazes dropped?”

“Not many.”

“I’m not saying we don’t care at all if a woman is pretty. But you have no worries there. Men love big round eyes like yours, and you’ve got one the sexiest mouths I’ve ever seen.” He touched her cheek, sending a shiver through her. “Not to mention, a flawless complexion.”

“Thank you.” She dragged her gazed away from his. “So what do I do when I get there?”

“Sit by yourself at a table by the bar. That way you’re near enough for a guy to have an excuse to get close, but it suggests you’re looking for something more intimate than a conversation with the bartender listening.”

“Then what?”

“Order something from their specialty drink menu that has a fruit garnish. Then glance casually around the room. When you spot someone you like the looks of, give him a half smile, but keep your eyes moving.”

“Okay. She pointed to the card table they’d been eating at. “Go sit over there and let me practice on you.”

He strolled across the room and sank onto one of the folding chairs. She glanced around the room a few moments before she made eye contact with him and lifted one corner of her mouth. For fun, she raised one eyebrow slightly before pulling her gaze away.

“Oh, yeah.” He nodded, smiling. “You’ve got my interest now. That eyebrow thing was a nice touch. Now that I’ve noticed you, look back at me again and then away. Then you’re ready for the body language part.”

She chuckled. “What? Should I stick my chest out so he can see I have those breasts you say guys are all looking for?”

“No, he already noticed those before you ever sat down. Flip your hair a little, touch yourself—maybe rub your neck a little. Then sit back and make love to the fruit from your drink.
